Due to unforeseen complications at home I was unable to attend the show in London. I was extremely disappointed but these things cant be helped and so I am looking forward to the end of year show in Birmingham. I have however carried on with my work whilst the others were showing. I'm still loving the idea of boxes and I'm thinking about hanging them or sticking them in a line and having to either open them or look through something to see the image. The only problem with hanging them will be the weight of the boxes themselves. I'm sure that i will be able to sort that out quite easily though.

Boxes

I have finally got around to making the boxes and i think that they look pretty good. all i need to do now is make the images 3d to put inside of them. here is the guilt image in a box but without the background and i have tweeked it slightly by adding text but havent yet got it 3d (i will have shortly though). i like the idea of having to look through a gap to see the image and that you cant automatically see it. this means that the audience will have to interact with my piece to see it.

Same idea, different direction

After some consideration over my final piece i realised that i was having real trouble visually representing my ideas. I came to the conclusion that i wanted to keep the idea of people hiding things away and pushing them to the backs of their minds and the idea of people keeping things in boxes......so the direction that im now going to take is, taking the thing that the person wants to hide away and making it into a scenario. Then putting them into hinged boxes that people will have to open to see what is inside.

this was the piece of work that i handed in and although it did take a lot of time to produce i feel that it doesn't represent me properly. I like print work and i feel i need to be making a body of work that shows this. As i have looked at other designers work i feel that i need to incorporate their work with my style and keep to the images or ideas that i have already come up with.

mock ups

after alot of thought i decided that the overall production of my fmp would look much better if i used cardboard boxes. The idea now is to use the images on the boxes. I wanted the boxes to look used and a bit 'battered' and i stuck the images on the boxes to look like an address sticker. I thought that it looks quite effective with the brown tape over the top of the image but didnt work so well with the fragile stickers. I like the image of the hand that i tried to incorporate a word on to although it was a bit small. Im going to try out printing the image straight onto the box itself and also use brown and white boxes. The idea behind using the box is that after explaining my idea to a range of people they thought the best way of protraying the shuting away of feelings, emotions etc would be to use a box. still busy busy....

these are the images of my project. It is a series of images with slight changes in each one to represent the growth and demise of the things being swept/shut away and the continuation of everyday life (thats why the plant was included).the model is of a camera and i chose it to represent the need to capture moments to remember them.

this weekend

over the weekend i aim to make the model objects using a variety of materials to see which one works the best. I also came up with the idea of bringing the drawers and rugs outside. This sprang to my mind as the piece is supposed to represent a person and photographing it outside shouts freedom to me.  it will also give me a great idea of how to set the objects up together.

need space.

After rearranging my rooms several times (and nearly a broken toe)i have come to the conclusion that i do not have the space to put the drawers and the rug together in the house....im trying to think of somewhere that i can at least see it all together for perspective it might have to be the garden for now.

initial ideas

using the images i have collected i have tried to use text with them. I like the stickers and tape over the drawers it shows that the one drawer cant be opened and that the other can but carefully. I really like the doll image..this item is personal to me and that's why it conjures up the image of death but to others it would have no such connotations. The image with the rug on I'm not so sure about I'm not sure how to incorporate text over the top of the image when the narrative of the image is underneath!

After taking many different photos of a rug with objects underneath i found it to be a bit lonely so i thought about adding a set of draws into the composition, With it in mind that people shut things away. This then led to me thinking that ordinary objects mean such a lot to some people and less to others. I then started to research chinese traditions at funerals to recreate the objects of personal meaning to the deceased out of card. This then also developed into looking at the advertisements made by orange mobile (if anyone knows the designer could you please let me know i have looked everywhere with no joy.)

fmp

After many months of working in my sketchbook to come up with the perfect idea for my fmp i have finally come up with one i am pretty pleased with. I took a lot of inspiration from david carsons typography pieces and then started to look at Tracey Emmin and Fiona Banners work both of which i find really interesting. My idea is sort of autobiographical but can relate to any person. I started off with print work as you can see and then developed that into photographic images. I wanted the narrative behind my work to be the consequences of life mainly the things that happen to you as a person that you wouldn't openly tell people and kind of sweep under the carpet.

come fly with me

i wanted to use my aviation font to see how it looked spelling words. This says come fly with me 253 and i think it looks pretty good. I hope you agree.

During the easter holidays i found myself recreating my aviation font. i tried to develop the font i already had but it developed into something completely different. by using the counters of the letters (some of which were included in my original font) i designed my new font. it is quite abstract and i think it is really interesting....i"ll let you decide for yourself.
